Basic information

The international scientific conference FERNSTAT 2016 is organized by the Slovak Statistical and Demographic Society in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. The name of the conference stands for itself and represents the topical focus of the conference. The acronym "FERN" represents "finance – economics – regions – notions" whilst the second part of the name "STAT" signifies "statistics". The conference is both applicationally and theoretically oriented and under its creed it seeks for statistical insights into issues of economics, finance and regions, attempting to provoke new ideas and spark methodological developments.

The conference will take place in Banská Bystrica from 22 Sep 2016 to 23 Sep 2016 in a natural surroundings nearby Banská Bystrica offering thus a possibility for trips into Špania Dolina, Donovaly, Staré Hory and other attractive localities in the neighbourhood of the Low Tatras with a number of stimulating and comforting mountain sceneries. A trip will be organized with option to participate in it after the official part of the conference is over.

Types of participation in the conference

There are three kinds of participation at the conference:

  • active participation with a presentation of the paper that will be included in the proceedings,
  • active participation with a presentation of the paper that will not be included in the proceedings,
  • passive participation without a presentation.

The presentation of the paper is a condition for including the paper in the conference proceedings.

Sections

Papers should be thematically related to applications and theoretical methodology of statistics in finance, economics and regional research and should be affiliated with one of the following sections:

  • Applied Statistics
  • Demographical Statistics
  • Mathematical Statistics
  • Regional Issues

It is welcome that papers discuss contemporary issues and notions of finance, economics and regional research from a new perspective, hence bringing along new views and deepening knowledge in the area where finance, economics and regional research overlap with statistics.

The papers presented at the conference must go through a blind peer review process in order to qualify for inclusion into the conference proceedings. The papers will be submitted after their presentation at the conference as it is expected that conference discussions during their presentation will stimulate new insights and may provide a number of recommendations to improve the quality of the papers. Therefore, the authors before submitting their papers are given a chance to better them in line with remarks and comments made during conference discussions.

Important dates

The papers presented at the conference must go through a blind peer review process in order to qualify for inclusion into the conference proceedings. The papers will be reviewed prior to being presented at the conference, but it is expected that the discussion at the conference during their presentation will give rise to new insights and may provide a number of recommendations to improve the quality of the papers. Therefore, the authors before final submitting their papers are given a chance to make small revision in line with the discussion remarks and comments.

  • 19 Sep 2016 – notification of abstract acceptation/rejection
  • 19 Sep 2016 – conference fee payment deadline
